Room 205 [Wednesday evening]

"Please?" Shuri wheedled.

T'Challa shrugged over the video transmission. "I do not see how one is necessary for you to have, Shuri."

"It's for class, brother. It's educational!"

"It's an ostrich. Where would you possible keep it?"

"I am sure Janet will not mind!"

"I do not share your optimism," T'Challa replied dryly. "My answer remains no."

"You hate joy, don't you," Shuri complained, rolling her eyes and ending the transmission.

She'd just have to find a different bird for her haberdashery final.

Room 205 [Saturday morning]

After a fun night of dancing and punch, Shuri truly appreciated not even having to change before falling into bed and going to sleep. Pajama prom for the win!

She was enjoying the pounding on her door much less.

"Mom."
"Mom."
"Mom."
"Mooooooooom."
"You awake?"
"Mom."
"MOM."

Shuri groaned and buried her head under the pillow. "Jaaaaaanet, it's for you."

"Umama."

That got Shuri's attention. "How do you know how to speak Xhosa?" she demanded, yanking open the door and staring down at a small person, glaring back up at her.

"Because you taught me," the little girl said. "Duuuuuuh."

"Who still uses voicemail? Is this secretly 2003? Regardless, this is Shuri, I'm not answering, text me like a normal person."

Meleket Ethiopian Restaurant, Friday night

Soo...somehow it escaped both of their attention that their flirty Friday night date was actually on Valentine's Day.

Fortunately the restaurant had space to accommodate them and were pleased to listen to--and correct, slightly--Shuri's Amharic greetings as they entered. "Doesn't it smell amazing in here?" she asked excitedly as they took their seats. "It's the coffee."
